Metroid Ravenous[lower-alpha 1] is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch 2. It will be the eleventh main entry in the Metroid franchise, taking place after Metroid Dread (2021).
Metroid series producer Yoshio Sakamoto confirmed plans for further main 2D titles in the series following the release of Dread, positioning a future installment as the beginning of a new arc following the latter game's conclusion to the overarching narrative that began with the original Metroid (1986). The existence of Ravenous was first leaked in June 2026.
Development
Shortly following the release of Metroid Dread (2021), series producer Yoshio Sakamoto confirmed in an interview with CNET that there were plans for further 2D Metroid titles and that a potential follow-up would begin a new narrative journey for protagonist Samus Aran, after Dread concluded the five-game storyline involving the eponymous creatures that began with the original Metroid (1986).[1] In June 2026, a ratings leak from Brazil's Ministry of Justice and Public Security revealed the existence of a new game, Metroid Ravenous, with references to a production start date of 2026 and suggestions of violence, blood, death and light sexual content.[2][3]
Release
Metroid Ravenous is scheduled to release for the Nintendo Switch 2.[4]
