Adelbert Steiner (Japanese: アデルバート・スタイナー Hepburn: Aderubāto Sutainā) is a supporting character from the 2000 role-playing video game Final Fantasy IX, as well as within the wider Final Fantasy franchise by Square Enix. One of IX's playable characters, he is first introduced as a knight tasked with protecting Princess Garnet by the game's antagonist Queen Brahne, whom he initially trusts with a sense of loyalty as the result of his narrow worldview. When Garnet is kidnapped on her own volition by the thief Zidaine Tribal, he is reluctantly forced to put aside his distrust for criminals under royalty in order to accompany her. Over the course of the adventure Steiner's worldview is widened, no longer trusting Brahne as he learns to respect Zidaine in the same way he was to her.
