Meute (spelling: MEUTE) is a Techno Marching Band from Hamburg/Germany founded by the trumpeter Thomas Burhorn in 2015. The band re-arranges Techno, House and Deep House works by well-known DJs and creates electronic beats with the instruments of a Brass band.
Band history
The band exploded onto the scene in 2016 through the viral success of their debut video of the song Rej from Berlin DJ duo Âme. Within a week, Meute tapped more than 400,000 clicks with the video of their interpretation of the Deep-House song, in the midst of Hamburg's Schanzenviertel.
After the release of their debut album Tumult in autumn 2017, club tours followed with performances in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Luxembourg. In the first two years, the band performed in more than 150 concerts.[1]
With their acoustic guerrilla gigs, Meute brings acoustic techno to the streets. In June 2018, the band gained international attention for its performance in Berlin with their rework on You & Me by Disclosure and Eliza Doolittle (Flume Remix). Currently (as of April 29, 2019), the YouTube video has 19 million views and is to date Meute's most successful single. Meute's guerrilla appearance in Rome in October 2018 drew the focus on the following single Hey Hey (Dennis Ferrer remix).
In 2018 Meute participated in the Showcase Festivals ESNS and SXSW and was one of the most booked festival bands in Europe.[2]
Meute's reworks also find favor with the original artists of the arranged tracks. In 2017 was the first stage appearance of Meute and Laurent Garnier at the Festival Yeah!. In 2018 Meute and Stephan Bodzin shared the stage at the Festival Reperkusound in Lyon.
At the beginning of 2019 the band toured through 14 countries and more than 40 cities as part of their tour "EUROPA 2019".[3] With the help of Goethe Institute, the band played concerts in South Africa and Eswatini for the first time in May 2019 [7]. For Autumn 2019, Meute announced their first North American tour.
Meute supports projects by Musiker ohne Grenzen with the help of Musik bewegt.
Style
Their music is based on Techno, House and [Deep House | Deep House] hits. The works are rearranged by the Hamburg musicians and adapted to the cast of the band. Through the combination of techno and the acoustic instruments of a brass band Meute makes electronic music visible and combines two German music styles:"It does not get more German than this!" .The hypnotic monotony of the electro is retained, but the sterile sounds from the machine are replaced by the warmer-sounding wind instruments. The result sounds "Symphonic. Hymnal. Orchestral". The band plays acoustic or amplified on major festival stages, in techno clubs and on the street. Through their cross-genre performance Meute also occurs in classical institutions such as the Hamburg State Opera or the Wiener Konzerthaus.
