Micfo is a U.S-based infrastructure as a service (IaaS) provider headquartered in Charleston, South Carolina[1]. The company is an international and globally certified IT infrastructure and managed hosting provider.[2] Micfo is a private company that offers scalable custom hosting solutions including cloud hosting, bare metal servers, and network services.[3] Micfo has 55+ data center locations across the globe and serves clients worldwide.[4] This network of data center locations makes Micfo one of the largest globally dispersed cloud platform providers. Micfo serves customers across 90 countries and is continuing to grow and expand.[5]

History[edit]

1999 - Micfo was founded by Amir Golestan, Chief Executive Officer, in Dubai when he was 16 years old. The company focused on small business website owners with standard domain registration and web hosting. Micfo's strategy centered around expanding web hosting services to a large volume of customers.

2008 - Micfo had grown to host more than 70,000 websites and employed approximately 200 engineers and support technicians. After the company started working with its first enterprise customer, the business model for Micfo evolved. Micfo pivoted to focus on scaling operations with their clients by providing a global network of data centers that enabled companies to grow and expand with one provider. Micfo's business model became centered around edge computing and creating a platform that connected users to data and communication faster by bringing the platform closer to the end users. By 2010, Micfo had divested the small business hosting portion of the business and moved their headquarters to New York, New York in the United States. The first United States headquarters office was located in the first WeWork office space in New York's SoHo district.[6]

2011 - Micfo expanded to open a new office in Atlanta, Georgia. Atlanta became the flagship data center for the company.

2015 - Micfo relocated headquarters to the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina. At this time, Micfo had one data center location and began expanding in to new markets.

2018 - After three years of scaling their infrastructure, Micfo announced the opening of the 55th data center location in July 2018. The company has data centers on five continents and serves customers in 90 countries.[7]

Acquisitions[edit]

In June 2018, Micfo announced the acquisition of OppoBox for an undisclosed amount. OppoBox is an ISP that specializes in cloud based gaming solutions[8] and is based out of Columbus, Ohio.[9] The acquisition of OppoBox was the first of its kind for Micfo. According to the press release, the company said that OppoBox enabled Micfo to move in to new markets more quickly and was a key piece of the company's expansion strategy.

Clients & Services[edit]

Micfo offers a global edge network that is built on a low-latency, scalable platform. The company customizes hosting solutions for each client and offers fully managed services and 24/7 customer support without any additional charges or fees. In addition to offering bare metal servers and dedicated hosting platforms, Micfo provides customizable fully managed cloud servers. They provide active monitoring and support from a team of engineers that are ready to respond to inquiries, install updates, security upgrades or patches, and maintain performance 24/7. Their active monitoring is included with all services free of charge.

Micfo clients range across a variety of different industries including VPN, Cybersecurity, Enterprise, Gaming, and Internet of Things (IoT). Their client base spans across 90 countries worldwide.

Values & Culture[edit]

Although the company has been around since 1999, Micfo culture mimics a startup mentality. The office has casual attire, an open floor plan, and collaborative workspaces. Values are at the center of the company's culture. The company is branded as one that strives to make a genuine impact on the clients they serve.

Micfo is located in the historic district of Charleston, South Carolina in a building that dates back to the 1800s. During renovations of the 2nd and 3rd floors of their building, they preserved the original brick walls, columns, beams, and hard wood floors.
