Michael Brauser
Michael Brauser is an American businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the current Executive Chairman for Cogint, Inc., CEO & President of Marlin Capital, and co-founder of the Betsy and Michael Brauser Charitable Foundation. He is considered by many to be one of the founding fathers of the data fusion industry due to his notable involvement and exits with pioneering companies in the industry, including Naviant, Kertz Security, and Seisint. Early life
Michael Brauser was born in Long Island, NY. He moved to Florida at the age of 17.[2] Michael attended the University of Florida, Warrington College of Business in Gainesville, Florida from 1973–1977 where he obtained a B.Sc. in Business Administration. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Warrington College of Business.[3]
Business career
Kertz Security
Brauser began in the security industry in 1972 when his father, Leon Brauser, purchased Kertz Security Systems Inc. He began working at Kertz, eventually becoming CEO and later handling its sale to Republic Industries.[4] At the time of its sale, Kertz Security Systems was known as the “oldest and largest independent alarm company in Florida”.[5] Kertz Security was purchased in 1995 by Wayne Huizenga of Republic Waste Industries for $24 million in stock.[6]
Michael Brauser took over as Naviant President and CEO after merging with eDirect. Upon sale, Naviant had acquired a database of over 100 million unique permission-based email addresses and 38 million postal addresses. [7] Naviant was bought by Equifax in 2001 for $135 million.[8]
Seisint
Seisint was founded by Brauser in 1998 as a subsidiary of eDirect. Acquisitions included Data One Marketing Inc., Sweepstakes.com Inc., and 24/7 Mail Inc. Seisint was purchased by LexisNexis in 2004 for $780 million.[9]
Cogint, Inc.
Michael Brauser has been the Executive Chairman for Cogint, Inc., formerly IDI, Inc., since June 2015. [10] Cogint, an information solutions provider, is a leading player within the data fusion industry. [11]
Other
Other notable investments include 5to1, an Internet advertising company that sold to Yahoo in 2011 for $28 million; and Interclick, which was also acquired by Yahoo in 2011, for $280 million.[12]
Philanthropy
Michael Brauser cofounded the Betsy and Michael Brauser Charitable Family Foundation, Inc., in 2014. The foundation’s two main areas of focus are Jewish culture in South Florida and cancer research.[13]
The Foundation is a long-time supporter of the Chabad of Parkland Florida Friendship Circle, which operates summer camps for people with special needs. The foundation donated more than $1 million to build a center for Jewish life at the Parkland Friendship Circle. It is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2017. [14]
Personal life
Brauser currently resides in Boca Raton, Florida, with his wife, Betsy. He has four sons and one grandchild.
