Michael Capiraso is a transformational leader who has delivered sustainable growth and repeated success across sports, entertainment, and consumer goods brands. A results-driven and dynamic leader, Michael has held key positions with the NFL, MLB, Cole Haan, and WPP. Today, Michael is on the board of JoggingBuddy, a new and exciting social media platform geared to serve the running community around the world. He has also served as President & CEO of New York Road Runners (NYRR), organizers of the NYC Marathon.[1][2][3]

Throughout his career, Michael’s work has resulted in impressive growth, fueled by innovative business strategy and marketing, and use of cutting-edge technology. He’s also worked to improve the cultures of organizations, creating diverse leadership teams and spearheading forward-thinking programs. [4][5]

During his time at NYRR, revenue doubled to more than $100 million and the organization’s reserves/endowment grew to $70 million. At the same time, the number of people who participated in NYRR events and programs doubled to 700,000. Michael helped to secure seven-figure partnerships with TCS and New Balance and was instrumental in helping build playgrounds in underserved communities through a partnership with the Trust for Public Land in NYC.[6]

Michael also launched the profitable NYRR virtual racing platform and opened the NYRR Run Center, extending the organization’s reach and impact. In his role as president and CEO, Michael also focused on the internal health and growth of NYRR. He built a diverse and high-performing team and drove the professionalization of NYRR staff, directly contributing to NYRR’s continued success. [7]

Under Michael’s leadership, NYRR cemented its position as the organizer of the world’s largest marathon, crossing 53,000 finishers and its broadcast reaching more than 700 million households worldwide, and raising more than $40 million for charity annually. At the same time, the NYRR was able to reduce expenses, eliminate redundancies, and streamline the organization to ensure people and resources were utilized optimally.[8]

Through it all, Michael Capiraso kept his eyes on service, something that was part of his life long before joining NYRR and then JoggingBuddy. Michael has run the NYC marathon 28 consecutive times, raising more than $100,00 for the NYRR Team for Kids Charity. He was also instrumental in NYRR’s outreach efforts toward underserved communities.[9]

Before joining NYRR, Michael built a long and stable career, beginning with Calvin Klein, where he helped develop and launch some of the world’s most recognizable ad campaigns. From there, Michael worked with the MLB’s production division before becoming Vice President of Marketing and Executive Creative Director for the NFL. With the NFL, Michael led the League’s comprehensive rebranding and 360-degree brand strategy, as well as Super Bowl marketing efforts. [10]

Michael also worked with Cole Haan, a subsidiary of Nike, as Chief Marketing Officer, towards doubling the company’s revenue and transforming its place in the retail market. Finally, Michael served as CEO for WPP’s Prism in North America, bringing strategic marketing solutions to enterprise-level brands including Coca-Cola, Rolex, and Ferrari.[11]

Michael Capiraso values collaborative and diverse leadership teams, professional organizational structures, and streamlined operations. These values, along with an uncanny knack for marketing strategy, creative, and execution, have allowed him to improve the reputation, awareness, and stability of every brand he’s touched.[12]
