Michael Clarke is a Radio and TV broadcaster from Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. He is currently the Station Manager of Lisburn's 98FM[1] and a football commentator for BBC Sport NI.
Broadcasting work[edit]
Michael began working in radio, aged 15, back in June 2005 with his hometown radio station Carrickfergus FM.
He worked for a brief time at U105 before entering and winning BBC Sport NI's 'Young Sports Commentator of the Year 2010' competition, being chosen from an expert panel including veteran broadcaster Jackie Fullerton. As a result of this achievement Michael was picked to commentate for the BBC on two live televised football matches at the prestigious international youth tournament, SuperCupNI.
In April 2012, Michael joined BBC Radio Ulster's Sportsound team covering Irish Premiership matches and in December 2016 he was added to the BBC's TV commentary team, working across domestic and international football. His commentary credits also include Virgin Media Sport[2] where he has commentated on Champions League and Europa League matches.
