Michael Eggman (born November 7, 1965) is an almond farmer, beekeeper and small business owner. He is a Democratic candidate for Congress in tenth California district in 2014.[1][2]

Personal life and education[edit]

Eggman grew up on the family farm in Turlock, California where he attended Turlock High School and graduated from Fresno State in the Central Valley. His mother’s family immigrated to California from Mexico while his father’s family came from Oklahoma as Dustbowl refugees. Eggman married his college sweetheart, Stacey, with whom he has two children.[3]

His sister is California Assemblywoman Susan Eggman.[4]

2014 Congressional candidacy[edit]

Eggman is seeking the Democratic nomination in California's 10th congressional district. The incumbent congressman is Republican Jeff Denham.[5] Eggman cited Denham's votes during the United States federal government shutdown of 2013 as a key motivation in running for Congress.[6][7]

Eggman was endorsed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and put on their Jumpstart program to provide early support to top tier challengers.[8] The Congressional District was won by President Obama in 2012.[1]

On March 3, 2014, Eggman was added to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's Red to Blue program of top targeted Congressional races as an emerging race.[9]
