Fictional character biography
First meeting
When Michele's brother, NYPD officer Vin Gonzales, was arrested and sent to prison for his part in the spider-tracer killings, after she helped him secure a plea bargain for a reduced sentence,[1] she moved into his apartment—of which she was signed up as a co-tenant—to look after the place. Peter had been gone for two months and was unaware that she had moved in, and their first meeting did not reflect well on him.[2]
After living with him for a while, she softened towards him and accompanied him to the wedding of Aunt May. When Peter's ex-girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson showed up, he began drinking excessively and woke up the next morning in bed with Michele.[3]
Love and rage
When Peter called her MJ, Michele was furious and threw him out of the house. She later left out a tray of cookies for him as a peace offering when she calmed down, but padlocked the refrigerator so that he couldn't get any milk.[4]
When The Chameleon kidnapped Peter in order to infiltrate the office of Mayor J. Jonah Jameson, he and Michele slept together, with her believing it to be Peter. When Peter escaped, he found that Michele now believed them to be boyfriend and girlfriend and had imposed many new rules, such as when to be home and when to go to bed. Unable to tolerate her demands any longer, Peter told her that it was the Chameleon, and not he, that she slept with. Michele was enraged, believing it to be a lie and punched him in the face, sending him to the floor.[5]
Michele became even angrier when Peter's coworker from the Front Line, Norah Winters, came to the house. Norah insulted Michele, calling her old and fat, and made jokes at her expense. She also led Michele to believe that Peter had been intimate with Norah.[6] Michele became so angry that she divided the apartment, destroying anything of Peter's that ended up on "her" side.
Michele's anger continued for some time. During "The Gauntlet" Electro, enhanced by Sasha Kravinoff and her family, gained increased powers. He campaigned against corporate tyrants such as Dexter Bennett and gained considerable momentum. While working on a way to defeat Electro, Peter short-circuited the apartment, further infuriating Michele.[7]
Reconciliation
Peter eventually came to understand her softer side when she brought home one of her clients. Michele had been defending him for years, trying to help him get his life back on track. Peter mistakenly believed the client to be her new boyfriend, and when his spider-sense reacted to the man's presence, he followed him to discover that he was involved with criminal gang leader The Hood. Michele also followed him, and the client revealed his guilt and tried to hurt Michele when Peter saved her. She confided in him that she thought she could make a difference. Peter told her that she was a good person, and the two reached an understanding and decided to be friends, her fury temporarily subsiding.[8] However, Michele was later seen selling Peter's clothes to pay for their rent.[9]
Back to Chicago
Michele arranged for Peter to come with her to pick up her brother, Vin, from prison. Peter was delayed by his duties as Spider-Man, which angered Michele. She was shocked and even angrier when he beat her to Vin, despite telling her he would be late. He was able to arrive faster as Spider-Man. Vin commented that their bickering reminded him of a couple, but Michele claimed that she was "over" Peter.
She attended Harry's farewell party with Peter and Vin, but left New York shortly afterward. With Peter now dating Carlie Cooper and Vin's legal troubles over, she was free to return to her law firm in Chicago. As she locked their apartment one last time, she wished Peter well and told him he was not a bad guy.[10]
