Clancy was the first Republican candidate to enter the race for Virginia's 10th congressional district, following the announcement of incumbent Democrat Jennifer Wexton's retirement.[2]

Mike Clancy was born to an Air Force sergeant and a schoolteacher. He grew up on Air Force bases across the country.[1][3]
