Mikhail Pochekin is a Russian-Spanish violinist.

Biography[edit]

Mikhail Pochekin was born in a family of musicians. His father, Yuri Pochekin.[1], is a famous violin maker and his mother, Elena Pochekina, is a violin professor. At the age of five he received his first violin lesson with Prof. Galina Turchaninova in Moscow. For many years he was also studying the violin with his mother. Later he continued his studies under tuition of such professors as Ana Chumachenco, Viktor Tretiakov and Rainer Schmidt (de), at the music academies of Cologne, Munich and Basel, the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid and also at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg.

As a soloist, Pochekin has perfomed with many renowned orchestras including the Mariinsky Theater Symphony[2], the Russian National Orchestra[3], the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic[4], the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia “Evgeny Svetlanov”[3], the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra[5] or the Lithuanian National Orchestra, collaborating with conductors Heinz Holliger, Vassily Sinaisky[6], Yuri Simonov, Kevin Griffiths (de), Valentin Uryupin, Stanislav Kochanovsky, Dimitris Botinis, Mei-Ann Chen and Alexander Sladkovsky.

Today he performs at such venues as the Mariinsky Theater Concert Hall in Saint-Petersburg, the National Auditorium of Music in Madrid, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (ru) in Moscow, the Great hall of Moscow State Conservatory, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, the Gasteig in Munich, Fundación Juan March in Madrid[7].

Also, he is a constant participant of the “Stars of the 21st Century[8] project organized by the Moscow Philharmonic Society. His chamber music partners include Wen-Sinn Yang (de), Manuel Fischer-Dieskau[9], Eliane Rodrigues (de), Kian Soltani, Andrey Baranov, Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Yury Favorin and Alexander Ramm. Special mention should be made of his duet with his brother a violinist and violist Ivan Pochekin[10].

Instruments[edit]

Since childhood Mikhail has played the violins made by his father[11]. In 2016-2018 he played Francesco Gobetti's violin (Venecia, 1720), courtesy of Albert Eckstein foundation[12]. In 2010 in Madrid, he gave a concert playing on Antonio Stradivari’s ex-Boissier, which used to belong to Sarasate.
