Milan Laser Hair Removal (commonly referred to as Milan Laser) is an American laser-hair-removal provider headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska.[1] Founded in 2012 by physicians Shikhar Saxena and Abe Schumacher, the company is the largest provider of laser hair removal in the United States,[2] operating more than 390 clinics across 37 U.S. states (2025 figure).[3]
History
In 2012, physicians Shikhar Saxena and Abe Schumacher partnered to purchase Milan Laser Hair Removal (formerly Milan Laser Aesthetics), establishing the company with four employees in Papillion, Nebraska.[4][5][6]
Originally a multi‑service clinic, Milan focused exclusively on laser hair removal in 2014.[3] The company launched its Unlimited Package, unlimited lifetime treatments for a single up front price, setting it apart from competitors that still sell three‑ to six‑session bundles.[3][4][7]
Milan Laser Hair Removal's treatments are performed by medically-trained staff, each clinic employs nurses, overseen by physicians, to customize laser settings for individual skin tones and hair colors.[5] The company uses the Candela GentleMax Pro laser, which combines 755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelengths, suitable for a wide range of skin tones.[8]
Milan Laser expanded through the mid-2010s, into Iowa, Colorado and Missouri.[5] In 2019, private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners invested a majority stake in the company.[9] Bloomberg noted in 2021 that the Leonard Green–backed company had filed confidentially for an initial public offering.[10][11] The registration was later withdrawn.[12][13]
On February 22, 2023, Milan received a strategic growth-equity investment from Sixth Street Partners and Wildcat Capital Management[14] Existing investor, Leonard Green & Partners, L.P. (“LGP”), along with the co-founders, will retain a majority interest in the company.[14] Advisory firm Latham & Watkins represented Milan Laser in the transaction.[14]
Community initiatives
In 2022, Milan Laser helped fund a new technology lab at Nelson Mandela Elementary School in North Omaha, part of a broader initiative to improve student access to educational tools and digital learning environments.[15] In 2024, Milan partnered with Military Makeover with Montel (Lifetime TV) to provide complimentary lifetime laser hair removal to a veteran family and to highlight a standing military discount.[16]
Recognitions
Milan Laser was featured on the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest-growing private companies in America, ranking #1125 in 2023 and #1173 in 2024.[17] In 2024, Milan also ranked #43 on the Inc. Regionals: Midwest.[17]
The company maintains an average 4.95‑star review rating.[7] In 2024, it was named one of Baird Holm LLP's Best Places to Work in Omaha.[18]
