"Milly Rock" is a song by American rapper 2 Milly. It was produced by JudoBeatz. It was released in 2014 and was intended to be an anthem for the signature dance move of 2 Milly and his crew, but became much more popular in 2015 when several celebrity rappers began performing the dance, including Chris Brown and Rihanna. The song has since become a staple in hip-hop dance culture. It was featured on 2 Milly's album Welcome 2 Millyville, which was released in 2016.
History[edit]
The dance is a variation of the 2 step.[1] 2 Milly claims he's been doing the dance since before it had a name. The name of the dance is short for "militant rock" (as "2 Milly" is short for "Too Militant"), and it's described by 2 Milly as "a militant way of rockin'". 2 Milly found the instrumental on YouTube by JudoBeatz and thought of it as a great fit for his song. The dance is still popular today, especially in New York.
Music video[edit]
The music video features 2 Milly rapping the song in his neighborhood.
Remixes[edit]
The official remix of the song features A$AP Ferg and Rick Ross. Lil Wayne released a remix of the song titled "Millyrokk" on his mixtape, No Ceilings 2.
Legacy[edit]
The song is notably referenced in the Playboi Carti song "Magnolia", who says in the lyrics "In New York I Milly Rock/Hide it in my sock".
