Minister of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories AffairsRe is a minister of Japan who belongs to the Cabinet Office for policies toward Okinawa Prefecture and Northern Territories of Japan as one of Ministers of State for Special Missions.
The minister who the law about the Cabinet Office provides as an indispensable minister for all the administrations in Japan is in charge of issues around Okinawa Prefecture including preparation of infrastructure, promotion and development, Okinawa Development Finance Corporation and clear location and borders for Okinawa Prefecture and issues around Northern Territories including enlightenment of Kuril Islands dispute, support for people who had lived in Northern Territories, documents including certification for movement between Japan and Northern Territories and communication, mediation and other treatment about issues between them for Northern Territories.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]The law also provides the minister is the chief of Northern Territories Affairs Administration for restoration of Iturup, Kunashir Island, Shikotan and the Habomai Islands in Northern Territories at the same time.
When the Cabinet Office was founded by the law about reform of ministries of Japan in 6th January 2001, Ministership of State for Okinawa and Northern Territories Affairs was established integrating an agency in charge of development of Okinawa Prefecture and a department in charge of issues about Northern Territories.
