Mintex
Mintex is a British brand of automotive brake pads for disc brakes.
History[edit]
The company was formed in 1908. It was sited at Scandinavia Mills in Cleckheaton.
Second World War[edit]
During the Second World War, it provided brake linings, made at Cleckheaton, for aircraft including the Spitfire, Hurricane, and Typhoon.[1] The company made parts for the brakes for Britain's tanks, and also made parachute harnesses.
Automotive braking[edit]
BBA Aviation is largely formed from the Mintex site at Cleckheaton. By the 1980s BBA Group was the world's largest supplier of original equipment brake pads to the automotive industry. In the 1990s, Mintex produced its own calendars with portraits of glamour models.
Motorsport[edit]
It has produced products for vehicles participating in motorport, under the brand Mintex Racing. It sponsored the Mintex National Rally in the 1990s.
Ownership[edit]
Its former owner, BBA, also owned Angus Fire (fire hoses) of Lancashire.
Today Mintex is owned by TMD Friction UK (German), based on the A58 off the M62/M606 Chain Bar junction at Cleckheaton[2] in Kirklees, West Yorkshire. TMD Friction is headquartered in Leverkusen in North Rhine-Westphalia. TMD Friction Group is the world's leading manufacturer of friction materials for automotive and industrial purposes.
