Mirko Bischofberger (born 1980 in Morcote, Switzerland) is a Swiss-Italian science communication specialist, film maker and film policy activist.[1] He is head of communication at EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne).[2]

Science communication[edit]
Bischofberger studied biology and biochemistry at ETH Zurich and in 2005 obtained his Master's degree for his thesis supervised by Yves Barral. He then joined the laboratories of Gisou van der Goot and Felix Naef as PhD student and graduated in 2010 with a theis on Assembly Mechanisms and Cellular Effects of Bacterial Pore-Forming Toxins.[3] From 2005 to 2012 he was a freelance writer at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).[4] In 2012, enabled by a grant from the Stiftung wissenschaftliche Politikstipendien (Foundation scientific grants in politics) he joined the Services of the Swiss Federal Assembly in the commissions for "science, education and culture", as well as "environment, energy and urban and regional planning."[5] From 2013 to 2016 he acted as scientific advisor for the then president of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Martin Vetterli.[6]
In 2017, joined EFPL as scientific advisory of EPFL's president Martin Vetterli. Concurrently, he also founded the agency for science communication Science Studios.[7] Since 2019 he has been the head of communication at EPFL.[2]
He has also been a lecturer at ZHAW on "Digital Culture,"[8] at the University of Zurich on “Storytelling,”[9] and at the Volkshochschule Zürich (VHSZ) on "Fake News."[10]

Bischofberger is both an activist in film politics and an active filmmaker.
Film politics[edit]
He is the founder of the Swiss Fiction Movement, an association and think tank of young film makers advocating for more democratic film promotion in Switzerland.[11]
His activism has been featured in news outlets such as NZZ am Sonntag,[12][1] SRF Kultur,[13] Tages-Anzeiger,[14][15] Cine Bulltin,[16][17] and Le Temps.[18]

He is a member of the Swiss Film Commission,[25] member of the Swiss Filmmakers Association,[26] founding member and member of the board of directors of the Swiss Fiction Movement,[11] member of the board of directors of the Foundation Science et Cité,[27] and a member of the American Swiss Foundation.[28]
