Kim Mi-so (Hangul김미소; born on May 31, 1992), known mononymously as Miso, is a South Korean singer-songwriter.

Early life and education[edit]

Miso was born on May 31, 1992, in Seoul, South Korea.

When she was 3, she and her family relocated to the United Kingdom. At age 4, Miso started taking violin lessons and also learned how to play the Cello and Flute during primary school.

In 2004, she and her family moved back to South Korea. Miso would start producing music at 19. After graduating from Asia Pacific International School in 2012. Miso got accepted to The School of Jazz to study vocalization. However, she decided not to enroll but to pursue a career in music. In late 2012, in order to support herself, she spent 3 years working in customer service and marketing at a cosmetic export company.

Career[edit]

2015–2017: Career beginnings[edit]

In June 2015, Miso applied to the Red Bull Music Academy in Paris and got accepted[1]. She would later quit her job and head off to Paris in October 2015. After her first ever performance at Petit Bain in Paris, she made her first Korean debut as a DJ at Cakeshop, Itaewon in December 2015.

In January 2016, she joined Seoul-based hip hop collective Club Eskimo. From then on, she would frequently back up DJ for Dean. Miso would upload beats to her music to her SoundCloud account. In May 2016, she did her first featuring in Crush's "Castaway" from his album [Interlude]

In Feb 2017, Miso made her first DJ debut at Fendi x Boiler Room, New York. In March 2017, Miso went on her first tour with Club Eskimo to Canada. In May, she DJ'd at Japan's Rainbow Disco Club Festival and also went on her second US tour with Club Eskimo. During this year, she also started producing for Dean. In November 2017, she featured on the song "Girl Interrupted" from 2xxx!'s 1st EP [Life].

2018–present: Further projects[edit]

In February 2018, Miso featured in Offonoff's 'Cigarette' featuring Tablo.[2] Later that year, Miso Joined you.will.knovv, a Korean music label.

In January 2019, she released her first single 'Take Me'. That went viral when Lisa from Blackpink danced to the song on their tour.[3]

Starting in March 2020, she released the "Miso's Home Alone" series on YouTube. In the series, Miso recreates her own version of famous tracks such as 'Pink + White' by Frank Ocean and even her own song 'Alone' but this time featuring DEAN.

In May 2020, Miso released her second single 'Alone'. In July 2020, Miso collaborated with DEAN and Burberry on the track 'Imagination'. In December 2020, Miso released her first EP [Metanoia]

In May 2021, Miso released her third single 'Slow Running'. In June 2021, Miso performed her single live on Slovibe. Later on, Miso took a break from music to focus on her health. In December 2021, Miso - alongside Korean rappers JUSTHIS and Don Malik, featured in Joph's single 'Combiantion'

In March 2022, Miso Featured on track '4D' with Loco on Rad Museum's first studio album [RAD]. In April 2022, Miso performed at the Watcha Hall alongside other you.will.knovv members Tabber, Rad Museum, and Maldn. In the same month, Miso featured on 'Afloat' in Beau Diako's album [Nylon]. At the end of May in 2022, Miso Featured on the first track 'Sometimes' of Moon Sujin's first EP. In June 2022, Miso performed at her 6th Capsule Live show with other you.will.knovv members. In July 2022, Miso's single 'Alone' was included in the soundtrack of the movie 'New Normal' directed by Jung Beom Sik.
