Mister Car Wash is an American car wash company headquartered in Tucson, Arizona with over 250 locations in 21 states.

History[edit]

The first Mister Car Wash store opened in 1969 in Houston, Texas. In 1996, Mister Car Wash was incorporated as a firm that intended to develop quickly by acquiring other car wash locations across the country. This expansion started with the acquisition of 3 car washes in Boise, Idaho in 1997. In 1998, Mister Car Wash of Houston was acquired by Car Wash Partners, adding 11 car washes and 6 lube stores to their portfolio. The quick expansion continued into the late 90's and early 2000's as Mister Car Wash acquired 10 car washes in Minnesota, Texas and Iowa after appointing Ron Peterson as CEO.

During the early 2000s, the company acquired additional locations in Idaho, Washington and Minnesota. In 2003, the company launched its Unlimited Wash Club; a loyalty program that allows members to enjoy as many car washes as they wish at any of the Mister Car Wash locations.

In 2007, Mister Car Wash was acquired by ONCAP; a private equity firm, which helped add 21 locations in the span of a few months, making Mister Car Wash the second largest car wash chain in the United States. Expanding quickly, Mister Car Wash acquired a record-breaking 51 locations and became the largest car wash chain in the United States. In 2013, Mister Car Wash acquired an additional 13 locations and current CEO John Lai was appointed to his position.

Leonard Green & Partners L.P. acquired Mister in 2014, and the company moved its headquarters to downtown Tucson, Arizona where it continued to expand operations.[1][2] In 2016, the company purchased additional office space in Tucson to expand its headquarters after acquiring an additional 46 locations.[3] As of 2018, Mister Car Wash operates over 260 locations across 21 states.

Acquisitions[edit]

Mister Car Wash has adopted a quick-growth policy and has acquired more than 260 locations throughout its history. Despite being founded in Houston, Texas, the company manages operations out of Tucson, Arizona, where it has 15 locations. As a whole, the company employs more than 8,000 people in 266 car washes and 33 lube centers across the country.[4] The company's most recent acquisitions include locations in Bakersfield, California,[5] West Michigan,[6] Idaho,[7], Alabama[8], as well as Albuquerque, West Michigan, Georgia, Colorado Springs, and Georgia.
