Alicat Scientific is a manufacturer of mass flow and pressure instrumentation. Established in 1991, Alicat manufactures differential pressure-based mass flow meters, mass flow controllers, liquid meters and controllers, and pressure controllers for industrial and laboratory applications.[1] Based in Tucson, Arizona (USA), the company also has offices in India and China, as well as many representative companies throughout the world. Alicat created the worlds first bidirectional flow controller.[2] Additionally, the company held the patent for the laminar flow elements used in the body of the device. Alicat was awarded the 2015 Halma plc Innovation Award for best product for the Whisper line of flow meters and controllers.[3]
History[edit]
Alicat was established in 1991 in Tucson, Arizona. In 2010, the company was acquired by Halma plc as part of its Environmental & Analysis sector.[4]
Products[edit]
Alicat’s flow products are based on the principles of Hagen-Poiseuille’s equation, which involves differential pressure for a known fluid viscosity while maintaining laminar flow. Laminar flow is created by forcing flow through thin channels in the flow body of the device. Because Hagen-Poiseuille’s equation depends on the viscosity of the fluid, any gas or liquid used in the devices must have a well-defined viscosity curve covering the full range of operating conditions.[5]
