Mixkit is a free online resource that offers a collection of high-quality stock footage, stock music, sound effects, and video templates for use in creative projects.[3] It was launched in 2019 by the founders of the digital assets marketplace Envato[4][2], Collis and Cyan Ta'eed and family[5], and is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia[3]. Mixkit is part of the Envato portfolio of products that includes Envato Market, Envato Elements and Placeit[6].
History
Launch (2019)
The Mixkit website was initially developed out of an in-house Envato project to provide exclusive, high-quality video assets for Envato's product, Placeit. However, its potential to extend its offerings to a broader audience was soon recognized. Consequently, on February 5th, 2019, Mixkit was made freely accessible to the global public.[7][2][8]
Growth and Expansion
Mixkit has experienced rapid growth[2] since it was founded and is now a popular choice for content creators. Initially, Mixkit only had a collection of video clips, but has now expanded to include music, sound effects, and video templates for software platforms like Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro. A small collection of illustrated artworks was added in August 2019[9]. The platform's library of high-quality assets has attracted a community of users who seek professional multimedia resources without any licensing fees, attribution requirements, or account creation.
Partnerships and Collaborations
Mixkit has established partnerships with content creators and brands to expand its offerings and reach a broader audience. Through these partnerships, Mixkit has curated collections, created tutorial content, and gained more exposure within the creative community.
