Mizanur Rahman Azhari (Bengali: মিজানুর রহমান আজহারী; born 26 January 1990) is a Bangladeshi Islamic preacher and a very popular named in the Muslim world especially in South and Southeast Asia.[2][1][3][4]
Biography[edit]
Early life[edit]
Mizanur Rahman was born on 26 January 1990 to a Bengali Muslim family in Demra, Dhaka, Bangladesh.[5] His ancestral home is in Paramatla village of Muradnagar in Comilla district. From an early age he studied in a madrasa. He later received a scholarship from Al-Azhar University. The title Azhari has been added to his name due to his studies at Al-Azhar University in Egypt.[6]
Personal life[edit]
Mizanur Rahman got married on January 29, 2014. He has two daughters.[5]
Controversies[edit]
In January 2020, Azhari was criticized in the media when twelve Indian Hindus came to Bangladesh on illegal visas and converted to Islam.[7] His gatherings have been banned more than once places for allegedly making anti-national remarks.[8][9] The former state minister for religion in Bangladesh, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah called for "Sayedee to be born at home" and called him a "product of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami" and said action would be taken against him.[10] That's why, in 1st January, 2020, he wrote in his official Facebook page that this year Tafsir programs has been postponed for various reasons.[11]
COVID-19[edit]
Azhari has set up a fund to help the poor people who are working hard in the COVID situation. On Friday (10 April, 2020), the verification of the fund was announced on his verified Facebook page.[12]
Publications[edit]
Azhari's first book "Massage: A Touch of Religion in Modern Mind" was published at the Ekushey Book Fair in April, 2021.[13][14][15]
Television[edit]
Azhari started his television career with ATN Bangla Islamic show Islam o Deen. Then he also contributed as a co-host of Boishakhi TV Islamic show Shantir Pothe. He also contributed other Bangladeshi private television channel for the various Islamic show.
