Mocharim is a village named after the naga cobra king Mucalinda who protected Lord Buddha from a great rainstorm when he was meditating. The great naga cobra Mucalinda curled itself around the Buddha seven times and opened his hood over him, saying, 'let not cold and heat, the touch of flies or mosquitoes, wind or heat or creeping things disturb the lord'.[4][5]

Mocharim Village is situated nearly 1 km south from the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodhgaya in the state of Bihar, India.[6] It lies at the western bank of river Niranjana (Phalgu). The Holy lake Mucalinda, also spelled Muchalinda or Muchlinda [7] is situated here; it is said that this lake is the real home of the naga cobra Mucalinda who protected Lord Buddha.
