Model United Nations in Singapore
Model United Nations (MUN) in Singapore are academic conferences usually lasting 2-5 days that simulate the proceedings of the United Nations and/or other regional or governmental bodies such as ASEAN or the Parliament of Singapore. MUNs are a fairly new concept to Singapore but have recently increased in popularity both in terms of delegate numbers and conference numbers throughout the year.[citation needed]
As of April 2019, there are a known total of 16 conferences that are taking place, planned to take place, or have previous editions that have taken place in Singapore. 2019 also marks the first year that the Asia-Pacific Model United Nations Conference will be taking place in Singapore.[1]
Up until recent years, the MUN circuit in Singapore has been dominated by traditionally elite schools such as Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong Institution, River Valley High School, and Dunman High School, all of which have their own Co-curricular activities (CCAs) dedicated purely to participating in these conferences. However, due great efforts made by multiple conferences in 2018 and 2019, the MUN circuit in Singapore has grown to encompass less-elite schools such as Tampines Junior College, Admiralty Secondary School, and Tanglin Secondary School.
