Modern Combat: Versus (MCVS) is a free-to-play 2017 FPS game developed by Gameloft Montreal and published by Gameloft released on September 28, 2017[1]. MCVS is the seventh game and the second spin-off game in the Modern Combat series. The game uses the Havok physics engine. The game is an online-only game and features Agents which are unlockable characters with different abilities.
Gameplay[edit]
Gameplay Focuses more on a “hero” based shooter, Instead of the typical military/ tactical shooter. They went for a game more comparable to games like Overwatch. The game is only multiplayer but does have a Bot mode but still requires internet connection to be able to play. The game has two game modes: one of them requires you kill the enemies and collect as much “data” as possible, and the other is capture the zone. The game features “Agents” which are unlockable characters with different abilities such as Super Speed, Invisibility, Toxic Gas, AR (scan for enemies) and more. The game also has time-unlocked chests to receive new Agents to play.
Development[edit]
Development started around 2016 by the Montreal subsidiary of Gameloft and co-developed with Gameloft Bucharest. The Montreal studio was behind MC3 & MC4. The game uses the Havok physics engine. The game is not Modern Combat 6 and they aren’t planning to make a MC6 anytime soon.
Agents[2][edit]
There are 18 agents currently as of Oct 6, 2018:
Lock
Lock is a playable character in Modern Combat Versus. He is one of four ‘’Attackers’’ and one of two agents of British nationality. His core ability is known as augmented reality which he can use to scan his enemies which are behind walls or objects. He uses an assault rifle which can deal consistent damage with long range. He is a common agent along with Mi-Nu, Creeper and Kan.
Mi-Nu
Mi-Ni is an agent in Modern Combat Versus. She is an assassin with low health but can deal high damage at close range with ease. She uses her core ability known as “Speed Link” which allows her to run faster than any other agent. She is assumed to be the ‘Korp’ propaganda lady (she used to be spokesmodel for Korp). She wears a pink combat suit with a helmet which appears to have cat ears on.
Kan
Kan is an agent who is a defender. He has a very high amount of health. He uses a Light Machine Gun which can be used to suppress his enemies. His core ability is a defensive dome which his teammates can enter to protect themselves for a short period of time so they can either reload or regenerate health. He wears what appears to be ice-hockey attire, and appears to have a soda can inside his chest plate.
Creeper
Creeper is an assassin. He uses a Sub-machine Gun which has short range. His core ability is known as “Vortex Rattle” which makes him disappear and teleport to another location nearby. His unusual behavior makes him seem more frightening and he wears a mask which looks similar to those used during The great plague.
Sw1ft
Sw1ft is an assassin. She uses a auto-Shotgun with short range but high damage, but taking long time to reload. Her unique ability is Rewind which allows her to travel back to a location she was a few seconds ago; her health and ammo are regenerated. Her accent seems to be Latina. He seems to have a Texan heritage, and according to himself, he is a father of five, with his wife running books of his guns' shop in Foundry District.
Ghost
Ghost is an assassin agent. He uses a Shotgun and his special ability is Cloak which allows him to turn almost invisible to his enemies. Whilst he is invisible, he has a wrist-mounted blade which he can use to stab his enemies. Assassins die instantly, and attackers need to be stabbed more than once. Defenders probably need to be stabbed at least three times before Ghost can kill them. He is an epic agent along with Kult.
Kult

His core ability is deflect which makes him invincible for a short period of time. Anyone to shoot him during this period will get damaged. He is a Heroic agent along with Revolv and Cub.
Revolv
Revolv is an attacker in Modern Combat: Versus. She uses two revolvers which sustain high damage but has a slow reload time. Her special ability is “gunshow” which allows her to receive infinite ammo and rapid fire-rate. This is very effective against defenders. She also seems to have a Texan heritage.

Seven
Seven is a specialist agent in Modern Combat: Versus. She is the other sniper except her sniper is Semi-automatic with fast rate of fire. Her unique ability is the “Track knife” which is similar to Lock’s augmented reality except her whole team benefits from this and her knife can also kill enemies if hitting anyone directly. She is an exotic agent along with Chapka and Hashtag.
Chapka
Chapka is a specialist agent who also has a British accent. She uses an electric shotgun which overheats instead of running out of ammo. Her unique ability is the “zap trap” which makes her enemies get ‘sucked’ into the trap and leaves them vulnerable and it damages them.
Hashtag
Hashtag is a specialist agent who uses a Submachine Gun. His core ability is the “hack drone” or “Lil’D” which can hack enemy abilities and unable to use like Knox's Turrent. He seems to be young like Kult. His gun is also the only “Burst-Fire” weapon.
