Moh Damush (born October 10, 1985) is a Lebanese tech businessman, philanthropist, founder of the Africa Startup Initiative Program (ASIP), and the co-founder and CEO of Telecel Group.[1] He is also the founder, shareholder, and board member of several medical, tech, and R&D ventures in Europe and Africa.[2][3][4]
Biography
Early life and education
Moh Damush was born on October 10, 1985, and spent his childhood in Kenya. He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in business administration.[5][6][7][8][9]
Career
Damush began his business career in 2001 when he founded a retail shop for computer accessories in Beirut at the age of 15. in 2001 then, and he expanded to a chain of shops and wholesalers when he established Taki Computers in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where he developed the business until 2007.[10][11]
In 2008, Damush sold his businesses to start his telecom business by establishing Exxon Telecom (Previously MHD Telecom) with hubs in London to provide international connectivity to mobile operators, which later expanded to be one of the service providers for telecom companies in Africa and Europe.[12]
In 2017, Damush merged his telecom business to co-found Telecel Group with Nicolas Bourg and Hugues Mulliez, a multinational telecommunications business and started serving as the Group CEO.[13][14] He oversees the strategic direction and global operations, driving innovation across the company’s mobile, digital, and investment portfolios.[15][16][17]
In 2018, Telecel Group acquired Telecel Central Africa in 2018 then adopted the growth by acquisition strategy to acquire K3 Telecom operations in Liberia in 2019 and Afrinet in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2023.
Under Damush’s leadership, Telecel Group acquired Vodafone Ghana from Vodafone Group in February 2023. Most recently, in August 2024, Damush finalized a share purchase agreement (SPA) to acquire equity stakes in MTN Guinea-Bissau and MTN Guinea-Conakry from MTN Group, further cementing Telecel Group’s presence in the African telecommunications sector.[1][18][19][20][20]
Damush advocates for African development and is working to nurture young talent across Africa. He set strategies for Telecel Foundation, which focuses on health, women, and education, and he also founded the Africa Startup Initiative Program (ASIP) to provide a platform for and businessmen to innovate, scale, and drive positive change in industries ranging from FinTech to AgriTech. As of 2024, Damush is European Merits Development’s chairman and CEO of Telecel Group.[1][21][22]
Philanthropy and other ventures
Damush took several initiatives in education, health, and sustainable development throughout Africa. His philanthropic activities reflect his approach towards community development and creating long-term positive impact.[19][23][24] He advocates for sustainable growth in Africa and has contributed to these topics in international events like the Financial Times Africa event in London, the CEO Forum, and the Common Good Summit in Paris.[25]
