Mohammad Rajab Wali (Kurdish: موحەممەد رەژەب وەلی‎, romanized: Mihemed Rejeb Welî; born 26 February 1968) is a Kurdish-American internet personality and comedian.[1][2][3][4] He currently resides in Arlington, Texas in the Untied States and is unemployed. He immigrated to the United States in 1997, but remains a fervent advocate for the independence of a Greater Kurdistan.[5][6][7]

Early life[edit]

Mohammad Rajab Wali was born in Khanaqin, on 26 February 1968.

Wali and his family lived a regular life, until they became targets of Saddam Hussein's Ba'athist regime, facing much persecution. During the Anfal campaign, a genocide of Kurds in Northern Iraq from 1986 to 1989, Wali was imprisoned and tortured. His family, like that of other Kurds, faced great sorrow.[8] Before moving to the USA, Wali worked in Kurdistan with the Iraqi National Congress, an anti-Saddam coalition party aided by the United Nations and CIA.

Military service[edit]

Wali served in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan's military wing, the Peshmerga, during the Iran–Iraq War, being awarded a number of war medals. He also served in the United States Army. When in the Peshmerga, "in the mountains", he was also known by the 'secret name' Rostam Garmiani. On account of his military service and political beliefs, he commonly refers to himself as "Wali PUK".[5]

Immigration[edit]

Wali is a naturalized U.S. Citizen, having immigrated to the United States in the late 1990s[9] and settled in Texas by 1997. He found work in Texas with the FBI and law enforcement for a few months in 2001 and an additional few months working for the United States Army.

TikTok, Career[edit]

Wali's earliest surviving YouTube video was posted in 2016, in which he calls himself "King of Kurdistan" and warns of an imminent attack on the United States by Al-Qaeda.[10] He declares his willingness to carry out a preemptive strike against American Muslims and mosques using "one truck heavy duty" to "kill all motherfucker Islam". This video was incidentally recorded and posted on the same day as the Orlando nightclub shooting, in which a Muslim, Omar Mateen, killed 49 people. He also refers to Vladimir Putin as the "King of Russia". Since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Wali has further criticized Putin and Russia, warning of the escalating involvement of Iran.

Wali rose to fame on the online platform TikTok after one of his videos addressed to Joe Biden was shared as an internet meme and featured on the H3H3 Productions Podcast.[11] The video begins, "Joe Biden, Joe Biden, Joe Biden, Joe Biden. This message is from Mohammad Khanaqin, full face of Kurdistan, for you, Joe Biden." Wali urges the at the time president-elect Biden to intervene in the Middle East and establish an independent Kurdish state. He remains a popular TikTok vlogger and internet meme personality. He regularly posts on subjects ranging from health to American politics to absurdist comedy videos and animal noises. Wali has also done Cameo-type personalized Happy Birthday messages for his fans. He makes heavy use of TikTok's filters. YouTube reuploads and edits of his videos have hundreds of thousands of views. Currently, a subreddit dedicated to his videos and general information about his life has over 4,100 users.[12] Numerous Instagram,[13] YouTube,[14][15] and TikTok[16][17] pages are dedicated to republishing his work. In addition, he was the subject of an episode of the Two Percent Podcast on Spotify.[4]

Due to his controversial beliefs, Wali's TikTok and YouTube accounts have been intermittently and repeatedly shut down. Wali alleges this is censorship by the government and/or terrorists/Arabs. He, unyielding, creates new accounts and keeps a steady online following. His heavy anti-Arab views are likely due to his past trauma at the hands of Arab nationalists.

Wali has since given a full-length interview with Ethan Klein and a GoFundMe was created to raise money for him (nearly $13,000). A second GoFundMe was later created for Wali.[18][19][20]

Arrests[edit]

In 2001, Wali was wrongly charged with a felony after a supposed DUI involving drinking (non-alcoholic) Islamic beer, followed by protracted and expensive court proceedings. The charges were dropped but later, the court re-opened the case.

In 2017, while on the way to visit his mother who was very sick, he refused to pull over for police, ending up in a high speed chase and being charged with 'evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle'.[21] His mother is since deceased. Wali was arrested on two additional occasions, once in 2017 and again in 2018 for evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle.[22][23] In 2017 he was given five years of probation. In this period, due to hearing the police refer to him as "target" while chasing him, he referred to himself as "Target (Pronounced 'Taggit') 2017".

Personal life[edit]

He has siblings who also live in the United States and a sister who lives in Germany. He is known to have married and had 3 children, but has since divorced.

Despite having very little to no formal education, he can speak Kurdish and Arabic fluently, as well as English and Persian to a conversational degree, and demonstrates a limited proficiency in Spanish, Turkish, and Urdu.[24][25]

He at times struggles to pay for child support, his phone bill, rent, and food. Because of his disabilities, he is unemployed and relies on Social Security payments for income. For food, Wali sometimes visits food pantries at local Christian churches and uses Food Stamps. He has also received assistance from a local charity, Mission Arlington.

Medical history[edit]

Due to his injuries, he suffers from a limited range of motion making exercise difficult for him. He suffers from diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, cutis verticis gyrata, sleep apnea, and obesity.[26] His health is a common theme in his videos, some of which were filmed while he was hospitalized. He uses a mobility scooter and a nebulizer. For health reasons, he drinks ReaLemon brand lemon juice as a beverage. Wali abstains from drugs and alcohol.

Wali's most distinct physical characteristic (besides weight), his eye injury, was sustained during his internment by Saddam's Ba'athist regime and in military conflicts involving Kurdistan.[25]

Death[edit]

Mohammad Wali has faced baseless rumors of his death or potentially imminent death, sometimes brought on by himself. He once overreacted to a particularly intense asthma attack by posting a TikTok saying a doctor told him that he had one day left to live. The next morning, he awoke and posted a video claiming that the consumption of garlic, lemon, and "fahjeel" (radishes) had saved his life.[27]

Beliefs[edit]

Map of Greater Kurdistan

Wali is an ardent Kurdish nationalist, supporter of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), and member of both the Society of the Political Prisoners of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Association of Ancient Organizations. He subscribes to various 9/11 conspiracy theories, such as the involvement of George W. Bush and Donald Trump, and at times rejecting involvement of Osama bin Laden. He has claimed that Osama bin Laden is still alive and that after 2022, Wali would fly to another country to take a picture with him. Additionally, Wali claims that he spotted him in a Sam's Club parking lot. In a video addressed to Joe Biden, Wali urged the president to, "wake up" regarding the "truth" of the 9/11 attacks.[28] He further elaborates that the Pentagon was struck by a cruise missile (Red Cross), and not American Airlines Flight 77.

The Arabization campaigns in Iraq, Anti-Kurdish sentiment in the Arab World, and later the September 11 attacks contributed to the formation of his anti-Arab and Islamophobic beliefs. He also has faced altercations when in the United States in which Arabs cheated and persecuted him. He has called on the United States to shut down all mosques. He is for the most part pro-America and pro-Israel. He is anti-Trump, calling him a "bad boy" and "Trum motherfucker". Besides implicating him in the 9/11 attacks, he has accused Trump of dubious financial dealings in Turkey and Russia. He has at points discussed Trump's mafia connections and potential security threats to President Biden, and has purported that Trump's bodyguards had carried out 30 covert killings in Germany for Russia. He has also voiced opinions on Biden, saying "very soon you [Biden] go to hell" but has generally shown him praise. In response to Trump and Biden, politicians who say "go back to your country", Wali made the claim that 90-100 years ago, Joe Biden's ancestors were Kurdish people living in Qajar Iran. Wali has expressed general discontent towards the federal government, US Army, CIA, FBI, and Congress. His opinions on local law enforcement vary. Wali also claims to have worked for the CIA for 4 years, after which he claims that he was wrongfully involuntarily committed to a mental hospital.

It is unclear precisely where Wali's Arabophobia and Islamophobia overlap; he has expressed a dislike of Arab people but also all Muslims. The Islam-majority nations Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Pakistan, Kuwait, Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon (Hezbollah) have been expressly condemned by Wali, as well as the United States and India (Hindustan). Individuals called out by Wali include Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Bashar al-Assad, Qasem Soleimani, Ali al-Sistani, Abu Ali Shibani, and Ahmed Bashir, the latter of whom Wali claims to be harassed by on a near-daily basis with verbal abuse and death threats. In a message to the black people, Mohammad warns that when Arabs say "abeed", an ethnic slur meaning "slave", that it is the equivalent to the American usage of the word "nigger". This insult is used against the Afro-Iraqi population of the Basra Region, Iraq, Afro-Kuwaiti people in Kuwait, and Afro-Iranians of Abadan County in Iran. Similarly, Mohammad warns of a Farsi word, "siya" with similar use.

As for religion, his stances vary. He has expressed a general distaste for organized religion (on top of Islam) and churches as business. He does not hold traditional religious views, rejecting both Islam and Christianity, despite occasionally attending Church and praising local Christian institutions for helping him and other people in poverty. He has at times expressed a belief in heaven. Wali believes that in reading the Bible or Qur'an backwards, one can communicate with angels. Because of his upbringing, he maintains some aspects of Muslim lifestyle and culture, eating dolma, abstaining from pork and alcoholic beverages, and by rejecting Coca-Cola and Pepsi-Cola as haram in accordance with the 1951 Coke Fatwa. Wali prefers to drink 7 Up.

Joe Biden, wake up

He has given warnings about earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, 'big ice', 'big water', and other natural disasters. Wali has warned everyone to stockpile food and water for the coming worldwide drought and famine, as well as predicting mass migrations of Americans to Texas. He has repeatedly claimed that Russia would occupy the State of Texas for 20 years, presumably to control the vast oil supply there. He has made various other predictions about world events and wars. Following Soleimani's assassination in January 2020, Wali predicted that Iran, in retribution, would pay $80 million in order to have Donald Trump assassinated. Wali's most notable prediction was given in his video addressed to Joe Biden, released in November 2020, in which Wali said that Biden has between 1.5 and 2 years left to live, and to consult a doctor. This puts a potential death-date between May 8, 2022 and November 8, 2022. After Joe Biden passes away, he will go to hell, followed by his sister, followed by his wife. Wali has hinted at Biden's future cause of death as having a problem with his left foot or assassination by Israel. He has said "Hill Clintoon" will die and never become "King of the United States" (President) like Joe Biden. If after the two years he has not passed away, it is because "God gave him another life". At one point, he may have voted for "Mick Rami"; it is unknown who Wali voted for in 2016, and he presumably voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election. In a December 17, 2021 video, Wali accurately predicted imminent war between Russia and Ukraine. The 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine began February 24, 2022. However, he predicted this would escalate to include the United States, Israel, and Russia attacking Iran, and that the conflict would go nuclear.

In June 2020, he gave a warning via a ghost story, describing a cryptid-like alien entity in the Carolinas that is large, white like an animal, and eats people driving at night. He has expressed belief in conspiracy theories relating to Area 51 and underground cities.

He has promoted in his videos a mixture of lemon juice (lemin), onion and garlic as a preventative for COVID-19 and general cure-all. Other cures/remedies include drinking only lemon juice, getting sunlight, and listening to the Qur'an. To prevent headaches, Wali recommends the replacement of yellow light bulbs with white light bulbs.
