Mohammed Al-Yahyai (Arabic:محمد اليحيائي) is an Omani journalist, writer and documentary producer who has been working at AlHurra channel since 2004. Al-Yahyai received a master’s in globalization and communications from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in 2002, and had a fellowship at the Reagan-Fascell National Democracy in Washington, D.C in 2004. Mohammed published three story collections “Walking bead” (Arabic title: Karzat AlMashi) and “The day the treasury dusted off its sleep” (Arabic title: Yaoum Nafathat ‘gareezat Al-‘gobar An Manamat’ha) and “White birds, black birds” (Arabic: toyour baytha, toyour soda).[1]

Biography[edit]

The journalist, writer and documentary producer Mohammed Al-Yahyai was born in Oman and has been working for AlHurra channel since 2004. He is the producer and presenter of “Eye on Democracy” (Arabic title: Ain Ala Al-Dimoqratiyah), he also received a master’s degree in globalization and communications from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in 2002, and had a fellowship at the Reagan-Fascell National Democracy in Washington, D.C in 2004.[1] Mohammed published three story collections “Walking bead” (Arabic title: Karzat AlMashi) and “The day the treasury dusted off its sleep” (Arabic title: Yaoum Nafathat ‘gareezat Al-‘gobar An Manamat’ha) and “White birds, black birds” (Arabic: toyour baytha, toyour soda). Mohammed Al-Yahyai is concerned with issues of democracy, freedom, new media and photography. He has covered the most prominent international and Arab events of the past 28 years and has conducted press interviews with a number of prominent international and Arab figures. He’s been working in written and television journalism for 30 years. He has lived and worked for more than 12 years in the United States of America, and is currently settled in the Omani capital, Muscat.He was the Head of the cultural section of “Oman” newspaper and he oversaw the editing of its cultural section for more than 10 years, “1988-1999”.[2] He participated in the launch and management of several cultural initiative events in Sultanate of Oman, for example "the Omani story text" symposium in 1989, and "Muscat Festival of Arab Poetry "where he was chairman of the organizing committee at its three sessions, 1996,1997,1999. He co-founded "The story book family" at the Omani cultural club in the late 1980s, and co-founded “Nizwa Cultural Quarterly magazine” in 1994. He was a member of the board of directors of Omani Cultural Club 1995-1999. He produced and presented television shows on the TV channels “Sultanate Oman” and “AlHurra”. He published articles and analyses in literature, criticism and politics. He produced four documentaries: “Kununugu: Refugees in Exile camp”, in 2009, and “The Road: from strict to moderation: in 2010, and “Tunisia: The Revolution of Dignity” in 2011, and “Tunisia: The Facebook Republic” in 2011. His movie Kununugu was selected as the finalist for the 2010 London Television Film Festival. His texts have been translated into English, Swedish, German, and Spanish.[3]
