The Mohammed Dib Literary Prize (Arabic: جائزة محمد ديب الأدبية) is an Algerian literary award established in 2001 by the cultural association La Grande Maison in Tlemcen, in homage to writer Mohammed Dib. It recognizes recent Algerian literary works, across several languages depending on the edition.
History
The prize was founded in 2001 by the association La Grande Maison. The first session took place in 2003. Since then, several editions have been organized, although the frequency has varied depending on available resources.[2]
Organization
The prize is administered by La Grande Maison. Each edition includes an open call for submissions, a set of regulations, a jury, a longlist and shortlist, and an award ceremony held at the Palais de la culture Abdelkrim Dali in Tlemcen.[3]
Categories vary by edition: Arabic, Amazigh, French, short story collections, and “Dib Amal” (for young writers). The prize includes an announced endowment according to the latest published rules.[4]
Jury and presidency
The jury and its chairmanship change with each edition. For example, Sabiha Benmansour served as president of La Grande Maison in 2024–2025.[5]
Rules
In accordance with the criteria generally indicated by publishing houses, the overall volume of the collection must be a minimum of 100 pages, with each page containing 30 lines and each line 60 characters.[6]
