Mohammed Qambar (Arabic: محمد قمبر‎) is a Bahraini singer, songwriter, and DJ.

Education[edit]

Qambar started early as a guitarist and pianist in school, when his singing voice was discovered by local singer Hoda Abdullah in 2005. In 2007, his debut single “مشاكل زمن” (“Time of Problems”) was released, written by Duaij Al-Dossary and recorded at the Al-Quloub Studio as part of an album featuring young talent from around the country.[1] In 2008, Qambar first performed on stage at the Ministry of Education’s sixth annual talent concert.[2] He participated in many talent shows, and in 2012 released a patriotic single through Alhan Records entitled “أحلام بحرينية” (“Bahraini Dreams”), performed with 17 young talents and featuring Al-Dossary’s melody together with poet Khalifa al-Ashar’s lyrics.[3]

Composing[edit]

Qambar wrote some of his first few songs and also collaborated with other artists, including Adel Abdullah,[4] Yaqoub Abdullah,[5] and Mahmood Qamber,[6] among others. In 2020, Qambar scored his first musical, a children’s production known as كانديز آيلاند (“Candy Island”), which featured a book by Kuwaiti writer Othman al-Shatti and direction by Fahad Zainal.[7][8]

Patriotic songs[edit]

He has released many patriotic songs, such as “افزعوا للدار” (“All Out for the [Royal] House”) “أصدق عشق” (“Truest Love”), and “بحريننا” (“Our Bahrain”). “حنا هل البحرين” (“Blessed Is Bahrain”) featured 12 Bahraini singers and 25 actors and other celebrities in a video directed by Jaan al-Balushi.[9] He participated in many national festivals and celebrations, including a 2014 ceremony organized by Kingdom University[10] and a 2017 joint celebration of Bahrain and Kuwait’s National Days افرحي يا بلادي (“Rejoice, My Country”) with a group of Gulf and other Arab stars such as Dounia Batma, Hala al Turk, Oraib Hamdan, Khaled Bosakhar, and Hamad Buqais.[11][12][13] In 2020, in the midst of COVID-19, he gave a remote concert.[14]

Collaborations[edit]

Qambar has often collaborated with his fellow Bahraini and Gulf acts, such as Badr al-Hassan from Arab Idol,[15] with whom he had several successful hits such as “مزيانة” (“Upkeep)” in 2014.[16] He also has worked with Saudi artists such as Sultan Khalifa and Khamis Zuweid.
