Mohkom Singh Bhangal, known professionally as Money Musik, is a Canadian record producer and songwriter from Toronto.[1] He is a frequent collaborator of rapper Nav and has contributed to multiple Billboard 200 number-one albums, including Bad Habits (2019) and Good Intentions (2020).[2][1]
Early life
Bhangal began producing music at age 15.[1] Inspired by early social media videos posted by Nav—who at the time had a small local following—Bhangal contacted him for advice on production equipment.[1] Using earnings from a day job, he purchased a home studio setup and began establishing himself in the Toronto hip hop scene.[1]
Career
2016–2018: Career beginnings
Bhangal's early production work focused on the Toronto underground scene, producing tracks for local artists including Pressa, K. Money, WhyG, Casper TNG, and LB Spiffy.[1][2] During this period, he collaborated with 88Glam on the track "I'm Fresh," which featured Nav.[1]
2019–present: Mainstream success
In 2019, Bhangal served as a primary producer on Nav's second studio album, Bad Habits. He was credited on 14 tracks of the album, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.[1][2] He continued this partnership for the 2020 follow-up, Good Intentions, which also reached number one on the chart.[1]
In December 2020, Bhangal co-produced the entirety of the collaborative album Not By Chance by artists AP Dhillon and Gurinder Gill.[3][4] The project was a significant commercial success, with all tracks charting on the Official Punjabi Music Chart in the UK. Bhangal is known for a high volume of output; he estimated that he composed approximately 1,000 beats in 2020 alone.[1]
Production style
Bhangal primarily utilizes FL Studio for his compositions.[1] His production style is characterized as "dark" or "cinematic," frequently employing real instrumentation such as flutes, pianos, and strings.[1] He has stated a preference for minimalist arrangements that provide space for the artist's vocal performance.[1]
