Title

Montgomery (Monty) C. Lunde is an American businessman. He is the co-founder, President, and CEO of Technifex, a producer of special effects and show systems.

Early life

Lunde was born in 1959 and graduated from Stanford University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in both Design and Human Biology.[1]

Business career

Lunde began his career in themed entertainment in 1981 as a Special Effects Designer for WED Enterprises (now Walt Disney Imagineering).

In 1984, Lunde co-founded Technifex with Rock Hall. Their first project was to provide special effects for the Six Flags Power Plant indoor theme park in Baltimore.[2] They would go on to design the floats for the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympics opening ceremony,[3] as well as effects for many Universal Studios attractions, such as Terminator 2: 3D, Revenge of the Mummy, and Poseidon's Fury.[4]

Lunde founded the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) in 1991.[1][5] TEA’s Thea Awards have been likened to the "Academy Awards" for themed attractions.[6]

Technifex Products was co-founded by Lunde in 1999.[2] In 2020, Lunde founded Technifex XR, which provides virtual reality and augmented reality training and simulation for the military and first responders.

Lunde was a member of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) Board of Directors from 2003 to 2005.[7]

Awards and achievements

With Technifex, Lunde has received many international awards, including 28 TEA Thea Awards for Outstanding Achievement, and an IAAPA Brass Ring Award. In 1996, he was the recipient of the TEA Thea Award for Outstanding Individual for his founding and leadership of the TEA.[8] Industry trade publication Blooloop recognized Lunde as one of the 50 top theme park influencers in 2018.[9]
