Angelina Cardona Keeley is a former contestant on the reality TV show Survivor. Keeley finished third place after receiving zero votes on Survivor: David vs. Goliath.[1][2] In 2018, Keeley founded the nonprofit Ready to Run which encourages young women to run for student government.[3][4]
Personal life[edit]
Angelina Cardona grew up in Sparks, Nevada and currently resides in San Clemente, California.[3] In 2011, she graduated from Stanford University where she served as resident advisor and student body president with a Bachelor's degree in International Relations.[5][6] At Stanford, Cardona became friends with Adam Klein,[7] who later won Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X. In 2016, Cardona completed her MBA from the Yale School of Management.[6][8] She went on to work for Google (via Nelson Staffing) [9] and at Deloitte[6][10] before quitting her job to pursue social entrepreneurship through her nonprofit Ready to Run. Cardona married Austin Carroll Keeley in 2017.[11] They had their first child Sophia Michele Keeley in 2020.[12]
Survivor[edit]
In Spring 2018, Angelina Keeley competed as a contestant on David vs Goliath, the 37th season of Survivor.
Starting the game on the Goliath tribe, she convinced the castaways to unanimously vote out Jeremy Crawford due to his social threat level over the initial target, Natalie Cole, at their first Tribal Council.[13] After the tribe swap, Keeley found herself in a precarious position after casting a vote for Lyrsa Torres along with Cole, while being aware that she'd be eliminated, in an attempt to get her jacket.[14] This exposed her true nature and created distrust among her Jabeni tribemates. Nonetheless, she was able to survive one more tribal to reach the merge stage of the game.
Once the tribes merged, the rekindled Goliath alliance wanted to vote out Elizabeth Olson, while Keeley insisted that Christian Hubicki was a bigger threat. When the Goliaths stuck with voting Olson due to their sub-alliances with Hubicki, Keeley decided to inform Olson about the plan, and was later outed for supposedly attempting to manage the jury during the subsequent Tribal Council, which she denied.[13][15] Later on, when the tribe was running low on food, Keeley negotiated with Jeff Probst for more rice, accepting Probst's offer by volunteering to sit out of the individual immunity challenge.[16]
In an attempt to play her idol correctly in the Final Five Tribal Council, Keeley tried to convince the others to vote for her. She created a fake idol for Alison Raybould and planted it in a tree branch.[17] The move was seen by other castaways as an attempt to embarrass her, though Keeley maintained that it was part emotional and part strategic.[18]
During a reward that Nick Wilson won from a challenge, she created a Final Three deal with both Wilson and Mike White, which came into fruition after White won the fire-making challenge at the Final Four. At the Final Tribal Council, other players believed that because she constantly brought her rice negotiation up, including at that Tribal Council, the move was only made to further her standing in the game. These factors, along with a general perception of her game as disingenuous and transparent, led to Keeley not receiving any jury votes to win, finishing in third place.[2]
