Moonlight Benjamin (born 1971) is a Haitian singer currently based in Toulouse, France. She is mainly known for her gothic approach to Blues rock and for collaborations with artists including Omar Sosa and Jacques Schwarz-Bart.[1]
Early life
Moonlight Benjamin was born in 1971 in Port-au-Prince, growing up in a Protestant orphanage. During that time, she learned how to sing in the church, however, she soon left church singing to pursue more personal endeavors in her music.[1]
She moved to Toulouse in 2002, where she bonded with local musicians and performed in jazz groups and festivals. In 2018, after the release of two solo jazz albums, plus another with group Dyaoule Pemba, she released her third studio album, Siltane, in collaboration with guitarist Matthis Pascaud. In the album, Benjamin adopted a much darker persona, incorporating electric guitars and a heavy blues rock influence in her sound. This is the sound she is mainly known for nowadays.
