Marcus Patterson, (born August 27, 1993) known professionally as Mornin Afta, is an American singer and songwriter from Baltimore, Maryland. He released his first EP, The Pill on April 4th, 2016, his second EP, The Pill 2, on July 12, 2018, his third EP, All About You, on November 7, 2019 and By Appointment Only, February 14, 2021.

Early and personal life

Marcus Antonio Patterson Jr. was born on August 27, 1993 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised in a city engulfed in trap music, but he discovered an innate knack for singing and taught himself melodies by converting hip hop songs into R&B. He plays the piano, guitar and produces the majority of his music. Mornin creates and hosts events to give back to the community such as Tech Tech Talk which he hosted after going viral on Twitter. He soon relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to pursue music.

Influences

Although he originally wanted to be a video game programmer, Mornin’s interest in music stemmed at an early age—he sang in his church choir at age 5, and began writing music around age 11. He also learned to read music and play the trumpet and piano in middle school, and took music production classes in high school. In 2011, Mornin found himself going back to old R&B to immerse himself in classic R&B and eventually fell in love with the likes of Prince, Rick James, Lauryn Hill, and Stevie Wonder.

Career

Music Career

Mornin received major buzz in the college music scene. He attended Morgan State University where he built his core followers. Mornin Afta performed at HBCU homecomings such as North Carolina A&T, Bowie State University, Lincoln University, Coppin State University and Morgan State University. He has opened for major artists such as Migos, Rick Ross, Jacquees and more.

By Appointment Only

On February 14, 2021, Mornin released By Appointment Only. The 5-track project was different than most of his EPs as this EP featured more live instruments and less 808s like The Pill 2.
