Moulvibazar Government High School is located in Moulvibazar district headquarters of Sylhet division of Bangladesh.[1][2][3] An educational institution of Moulvibazar district, which was established in 1891 during the British rule. The school is headed by a head teacher and two assistant head teachers.
History[edit]
Middle English School was established in the present Moulvibazar town in June 1785 during the British rule. Six years later it became a High School. In 1814, the Government of Assam decided to make the school official and since then it has been known as Moulvibazar Govt. High School. Sylhet was the entrance examination center in Moulvibazar region (South Sylhet subdivision) until 1938. In 1933, Moulvibazar Govt. High School was recognized as an entrance examination center and the students of that year could not take the exam in that center.
Sports[edit]
The school has a physical education curriculum for students and a PT each week. Classes are held compulsory. The school has two grounds for student sports, one enclosed by the main building, called the Inner Ground, and the other outside the main boundary, called the Big Ground. The outfield underwent major improvements in 2006. This ground is used for organizing various inter-district and inter-department competitions including annual school sports competitions, inter-class sports competitions. The school has its own Football, Cricket, Badminton, Chess, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Handball teams, who regularly participate in various sports on behalf of the school. Among the sports achievements of the students of the school are brilliant achievements in various sports in upazila, district, inter-region. Among which, it is worth mentioning that he was a seven-time handball champion from 2007 to 2014, upazila champion in football in 2014, district champion in chess in 2012, upazila champion and district runner-up in volleyball in 2011, upazila champion in basketball in 2010, district and upazila champion in 2009 etc.
Co-curricular[edit]
In addition to the traditional education of the school, various inter-organizations have been formed in the school for the practice of free intelligence and free thinking of the students. Among the inter-school organizations, Scout, Red Crescent and BNCC are notable. Members of these three organizations, especially the BNCC core, participate in the Victory Day parade every year. These three forces, apart from protecting the school's internal discipline, also serve as volunteers to deal with various national and special situations and disasters. Besides, students of the school participate in debate competitions separately at different times.

The results of the educational program are always traditional in this school. The success of the students of this school from the previous education system to the current education system is commendable. 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 SSC pass rate is 78.32%, 77.78%, 75.32%, 69.01%, 86.61%, 84.75%, 83.09%, 91.87%, 96.58%, 99.15%, 99.24%, 99.28%, 98.92% and 96.85% respectively.[4] 1 in SSC in 2002, 9 in SSC in 2004, 17 in SSC in 2005, 10 in SSC in 2006, 16 in SSC in 2007, 14 in SSC in 2008, 47 in SSC in 2009, 27 in SSC in 2011, 36 students in SSC, 39 in SSC in 2012, 49 in SSC in 2013, 53 students in SSC in 2014 secured GPA-5. The school ranked among the top 20 schools of Sylhet Board in SSC examination 2014.[5]

Others[edit]
Bangladesh Open University (BOU) classes are conducted in the school every Friday. The school auditorium is used for social and cultural activities. The branch of Vishwa Sahitya Kendra of the district is in this school. Also for various local needs (funeral prayers etc.) local people and administration use the school's large grounds. The school mosque is open to the local public for prayers.
