Moveltraxx is a French record label founded in 2007 by Parisian DJ Big Dope P.[1]

History

Big Dope P founded Moveltraxx in 2007[2] at the age of 16 in the banlieues of Paris, as a reaction to the lack of diversity in the French club music scene at the time.[3] House music was famously pioneered by Black artists in Chicago in the late 1970s, and a lot of those musicians felt disrespected by the French touch movement of the mid 1990s.[4] Due to the success of Daft Punk, major labels were quick to sign House producers from Paris, whilst the originators of the genre in Chicago felt they did not receive adequate compensation in comparison. [5]

As a result, Moveltraxx began releasing music from Chicago House natives such as Waxmaster[6] and Paul Johnson (producer)[7] as well as DJ Tameil[8] and DJ Rashad[9] in order to highlight artists and sub-genres such as Footwork (genre) and Jersey Club with roots in the Black community.[10]

In the years following, Moveltraxx have released music from a wide variety of artists from different backgrounds including Crookers,[11] Gettoblaster,[12] Todd Terry[13] and Feadz.[14]

On January 26th 2015, Moveltraxx released the first of their Street Bangers Factory compilation series,[15] which to date, has had 21 editions.[16]

On November 9th 2021, Moveltraxx announced a monthly mix series on Apple Music titled Moveltraxx Sessions.[17] The series has featured mixes from DJ Earl, Mighty Mark, Traxman, Lauren Flax, Detroit In Effect, Feadz, Amadeezy, Alex Autajon, Guchon and L'Étranger.[18]
