Muhammad Afzal Tariq (15 September 1971 – 24 October 2024) was a Pakistani educationist, mathematician, and philanthropist. He was the founder of several educational institutions in Dahranwala, Punjab, and played a significant role in advancing science and secondary education in southern Punjab. Over 17,000 students were educated through his network of schools and colleges.
Early life and education
Muhammad Afzal Tariq was born in Chishtian, Punjab. He completed his early education at Government Higher Secondary School Dahranwala and later attended Government Post Graduate College, Chishtian. He obtained an MSc in Mathematics from the Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
During his academic career, he was a board topper in the Bahawalpur Intermediate Board.[1]
Career
Afzal began his professional journey with a job at Fauji Fertilizer Company (FFC). In 1998, he left his corporate role and founded Umar Science High School (Boys Campus) in Dahranwala, focusing on quality education in mathematics and science.

Tariq was honored with a certificate for managing one of the best-performing PEF partner schools in 2018.[3]
His network of schools served over 17,000 students by 2024, many of whom went on to pursue professional degrees in teaching, engineering, medicine, and public service.
Personal life
Afzal had two sons: Muhammad Usman Afzal and Muhammad Salman Afzal. After his death on 24 October 2024, his elder son, Muhammad Usman Afzal, took charge of the institutions and continued his father's educational legacy.[4]
