Imran Sarwar Bajwa (Urdu: عمران سرور باجوہ‎) (born 5 October 1979) is a Pakistani Associate Professor and Researcher, born in Bahawalpur to a scholarly family. He initially worked as a lecturer and researcher in various universities of Pakistan, Portugal and United Kingdom. He is currently Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Islamia University Bahawalpur. He is author/editor of 4 books and 3 conference proceedings/books published by national and international publishers.

Background[edit]

Imran Sarwar Bajwa was born in Bahawalpur, Punjab, in October 1979. He got his early education from prestigious and state of the art institutions of Bahawalpur. He started his teaching/research career in 2005. Now, he is senior faculty member of Computer Science at Islamia University Bahawalpur. His areas of research are Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent System. He is head of Artificial Intelligence Research Group[1], IUB since 2014. He has more than 150+ publications and his personal impact factor is 40+.

Education[edit]

He completed his secondary education from Govt. S.T. High School, Bahawalpur. He received his intermediate degree from Govt. Sadiq Egerton College Bahawalpur and his Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Computer Science degree from Islamia University Bahawalpur. He earned his Master of Science (M.S) in Computer Science from the PAF-KIET, University, Karachi in 2005. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Computer Science from the University of Birmingham, UK[2] in 2014 under the supervision of Dr. Mark Lee and Dr. Behzad Bordbar.

Teaching[edit]

Bajwa joined the University of Balochistan (Quetta) in 2005 and worked there as a Lecturer, and researcher. In 2005, Bajwa joined BUITEMS (Quetta) as Senior Lecturer and a researcher. In BUITEMS, he was member of Board of Studies and helped in curriculum design. In 2008, Bajwa joined Islamia University Bahawalpur as Assistant Professor of Computer Science. In IUB, he is Associate Professor and member of Board of Studies and Board of Faculty.

Research[edit]

In 2006 earned FCT, Portugal fellowship for one year in University of Coimbra (Portugal). From 2009 to 2012, he was Ph.D researcher at the University of Birmingham, UK. In 2013, he established Artificial Intelligence Research (AIR) Lab at Islamia University Bahawalpur. He was chair of ACM Professional Chapter, Bahawalpur Chapter [3]in 2016-17. He was president of Sir Sadiq Association of Computing[4] in 2017-18. He was guest editor of two special issues in 2018; Intelligent Computing for Society in Journal of Universal Computer Science, Springer and Artificial Intelligence for Smart Systems in Computers & Electrical Engineering, Elsevier. Since 2019, he is Associate editor of IEEE Access journal.

Conferences Chaired[edit]

As a general chair, he organized IEEE ICDIM 2013 [5] [6] conference at Marriott, Islamabad with cooperation of IEEE Communications Society, USA. The proceeding book of ICDIM 2013 was edited by Dr. Bajwa and was published and indexed in IEEE Xplore [7]. In 2016, he organized IEEE INTECH 2016 [8] [9] conference at Dublin, Ireland with cooperation of DIRF, UK and IEEE UK & Ireland Section. The proceeding book of INTECH 2016 was edited by Dr. Bajwa and Dr. Ezandu and was published and indexed in IEEE Xplore [10]. In 2018, as a general chair, he organized first international conference INTAP 2018[11] [12] [13] [14] hosted at Islamia University Bahawalpur and the proceeding was technically sponsored by Springer, Singapore. The book of selected papers of INTAP 2018 conference was published by Springer [15] [16] and was co-edited by Dr. Bajwa, Dr. Fairouze (Scotland) and Dr. Anna (Brazil). He is also editor of the following conference proceeding books:

He published and edited four books in the domain of Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering. These books are published by renowned publishers such as IGI Global, USA; and Lambert Publishing, Germany.

He is active researcher in the domain of Artificial Intelligence. He has published more than 150+ research papers in well-reputed peer-refereed conferences and journals. He has 1000+ citations in Google Scholar. Additionally, he has 50+ articles in ISI Web of Science and 90+ articles in Scopus and 400+ citations of his work in Scopus. Bajwa has more than 15 years of teaching and research experience at various universities of Pakistan, Portugal, and United Kingdom. He has published a number of books, book chapters and journal articles with IGI Global, Springer, and IEEE. He is regular member of program committee of European conference on Natural Language and Information Systems (NLDB) since 2015.[26]
