Muhammed Yutaev (in Chechen: Ютаев Мохьмад) or Magomed Yutaev (in Russian: Магомед Ютаев), born in 1980 in Shalazhi and deceased in 1999, was a Chechen military fighter who participated in the First and Second Chechen War during his adolescence. He participated in separatism against the Russian Federation.

Biography

In early 1995 he voluntarily enlisted in the popular militia of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria to defend the territory against the Russian invasion, which had begun in December 1994.

In June 1995 he was selected to participate in Shamil Basayev's raid on Budyonnovsk, an event that marked the turning point of the war in favor of the Chechen independence fighters.[1]

On 21 May 1996 he gave an interview to an envoy of the Chechen presidential broadcaster, which helped make him nationally known.

In August 1996 he was involved in the Battle of Grozny, also known as Operation Jihad, which allowed the separatists to partially liberate the capital, Grozny, and thus secure victory in the First Chechen War.[2]

At the end of 1999 he was captured by Russian forces at the beginning of the Second Chechen War. Likely killed due to torture suffered in Russian prisons, he is considered a martyr by Chechen separatists.

But since his body was never found, there are rumors about his possible survival.[3]
