Dr. Mohammad Ali Shaikh (born in Khairpur, Pakistan) is the Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Karachi, Pakistan. [1]

Education

Shaikh graduated with a degree in engineering from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro in 1985 and holds a PhD in Mass Communication from University of Karachi.

Career

Academic career

He was Assistant Professor and Deputy Provost at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro. He taught the subject of Print Media at the Institute of Business Management, Karachi. He edited Science magazine and served as an anchorperson on Pakistani current affairs shows during 1990–94.

Government career

In departments of Sindh Government he served as Director of Colleges, Director Ombudsman, Director Coastal, and in other departments. He served as Director, SZABIST Center for Information & Research, Karachi, Director-General, Sindh Ombudsman's Secretariat, Director-General, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Director-General, Sindh Coastal Development Authority, and Director-General (Colleges) Sindh. He served as Executive District Officer (Higher Education) in Karachi City District Government. He was Chairman, Sindh Textbook Board, Jamshoro, and Administrator for Sheikh Sultan Trust, Karachi. Additionally, he is the chairperson of FOIA Pakistan.[2]

Publications

Shaikh wrote books on subjects relating to education and communication, as well as biographies of leading personalities of South Asian origin. He has also written articles on issues relating to his areas of interest in *Daily Dawn* and other publications.

  • Satellite Television & Social Change in Pakistan: A Case Study of Rural Sindh. The book discusses the role of satellite television in bringing social change in Pakistan through a case study of rural Sindh.
  • Benazir Bhutto: A Political Biography. Published by Orient Books Publishing House as an international edition in 2000, the book traces Bhutto's life as well as the history of the Bhutto family. The book has been translated into many languages.[3]
