Mushran

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Mushran is a Kashmiri Pandit clan or surname,[1][2] native to the Kashmir Valley in Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Usage

Mushran as a last name is amongst the most prominent last name used by Kashmiri Brahmins.[2] Naming in Kashmir has often come from informal origins, mostly from nicknames.[3] The word 'Mushran' means "ugly like a fierce demon" in the Kashmiri language.[3] According to local folktale, Kashmiri mothers used to scare their misbehaving children with the tale of a Mushran. Eventually with time, this nickname, like many others, has become a surname in Kashmir.[3]
