The Music Publishers Association of Japan (MPA) is a trade association of music publishers in Japan. It is under the jurisdiction of the former Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and has 248 full members and 60 associate members.
History[edit]
- September 7, 1973 - The Music Publishers Association of Japan (MPA) was established with 67 member companies through the joint efforts of the Nippon Music Publishers Association (NOSK) and the Japan Association of Music Publishers (JAMP).
- December 19, 1980 - Approved as an incorporated association by the Ministry of Education.
- 1989 - The Japan Music Organizations Council was established with the Japan Association of Music Enterprises and the Federation of Music Producers Japan .
- 1990 - Participated in the establishment of the Council for Measures against Private Sound and Video Recording Problems.
- 2001 - MPA has started to organize the International Music Rights Business Seminar at Midem (Marché International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale).
- 2002 - Participated in the establishment of the Content Overseas Distribution Association .
- July 2006 - Joined the "Council of Creative Organizations for Copyright Issues ."
- 2010 - Reorganized as a general corporate personhood and changed its name to the Music Publishers Association of Japan.
- 2012 - In September, the "Stop! Illegal Downloading Publicity Committee" was established jointly with the Recording Industry Association of Japan, the Japan Association of Music enterprises, the Federation of Music Producers Japan and other music industry organizations.

- Distribution of basic contract format
In order to properly protect copyrights and related rights, and to prevent contractual troubles, the website provides downloadable formats of contracts necessary for the use of music copyrights, such as the "Uniform Copyright Agreement Form," "Master Recordings Supply Agreement," and Sub-Publisher Agreement in English.
- International business
Exhibiting at Midem (Marché International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale) and holding international music copyright business seminars to increase international understanding of the Japanese music market.
- Distribution business
MPA receives and distributes related rights royalties such as "secondary broadcasting royalties and reproduction royalties" from the Recording Industry Association of Japan, "rental fees and rental royalties" from rental CD stores, and "compensation for private sound and visual recordings" in a lump sum.
