Music diplomacy is a particular form of cultural diplomacy.[1]
Definition[edit]
As a universal language capable of breaking down language barrier and cultural differences,[2] music promotes cooperation, understanding and mutual respect between communities, peoples and nations, thus contributing to the creation and promotion of a culture of peace.[3]
Objectives[edit]
Music, as a powerful artistic and expressive language, is a particularly effective tool for supporting public diplomacy, encouraging political action and promoting social activism.[4] Throughout history, numerous musicians, composers, authors, songwriters and performers have promoted, through their artistic activity, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.[5]
