From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

{Música Dispersa is an international cultural collective founded in London in 2012, dedicated to the promotion of experimental music, sound art, and activism, with a focus on increasing the visibility of women in these fields. It functions as a record label, event organizer, and radio program. One of its central initiatives is Women in Experimental Music, launched in 2019, aimed at fostering international networks among women artists in experimental sound practices.

History

Música Dispersa was established in London by Roberto Vilela in 2012 as a platform for interdisciplinary and experimental music projects. In 2014, the group was officially registered as Música Dispersa Ltd at the UK Companies House.[1] The company was dissolved in 2016, but the collective remained active independently and expanded its activities across Europe, particularly in Spain and France.

Projects

Women in Experimental Music

This ongoing initiative promotes performances and collaborations by women in the field of experimental sound. It has included European tours with events in Madrid, Paris, and London, and has featured artists such as Amas, Narcoleptica, Leonie Roessler, Gaël Segalen, Jana Jan, and Beatrix Weapons. In 2024, the project began integrating ecofeminist principles through a new network called the Sympoietic Sound Network.

Events and Activities

The collective has organized events in various venues across Europe. In 2019, Música Dispersa curated a concert series at MACBA (Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona) as part of a design and music program.[2] Other events have taken place at Les Nautes (Paris), The Glove That Fits and New River Studios (London), and Specka (Madrid).

Radio Program

The collective has also produced radio content, including a series aired on Radio Relativa. Notably, a special episode titled Siglo XX: 8M Women in Experimental Music was broadcast in March 2024, dedicated to International Women’s Day and highlighting tracks by female experimental artists. Música Dispersa has also been featured on national programs, including RTVE’s Atmósfera.[3]

Label Activity

As a record label, Música Dispersa Records has released compilations and individual albums. Notable releases include Música Dispersa Vol. 1: International Experimental Compilation and Antibacterial Anesthesia by Maurizio Bianchi (2024).[4]
