Muzaiko is a full-time international internet radio station in Esperanto.

History[edit]

The idea to create a continuous radio station in Esperanto was introduced during the British Congress of Esperanto in April 2011. The chief proponent of this idea was Hungarian Esperantist Veronika Poór. The team's internet mailing list quickly grew, and the team soon chose a name: Muzaiko (a portmanteau of the Esperanto muziko music and mozaiko mosaic). It was decided to temporarily broadcast using the service Radionomy, a website which supports internet radio with ads. Muzaiko began broadcasting through Radionomy and 1 July, with plans to eventually transition to its own hardware.

The team[edit]

Since the beginning, the project has been organized voluntarily by an informal international group of young Esperantists. The work is done primarily by means of mailing lists (one main and some special), sometimes by means of virtual meetings with Skype, and occasionally though physical meeting during Esperanto gatherings (the team of Muzaiko presented during JES 2011/2012). The team actively solicits to attract new partners.[1]

Program[edit]

Since 3 October 2011 different three-hour programs repeat each day, of which one hour constitutes new material. The station broadcasts music, world news (on the hour), talk shows and advertisements from Esperantujo. Some items from preexisting podcasts also appear.[2]
