Mustafa Alobaidi (born November 10, 1994) better known by his stage name Muzzy, is an English Drum and Bass electronic musician. He first gained attention with his release on UKF, X No Way Out in 2010 and continues to release original music.[1][2][3]

History[edit]

Early Years[edit]

At the age of 11, Alobaidi spent his time on computers, learning coding, graphic art and music. Alobaidi was inspired and influenced mostly by rock and metal music. A lot of his friends were in rock/metal bands, yet Alobaidi never learnt how to play an instrument. Instead, he was much better suited to computers, leading to his discovery of electronic music, which inspired him to become an electronic music producer himself.[4]

Alobaidi was influenced by rock/metal, early dubstep, ambient, electro and some pop artists. He took heavy influences from video game music, film scores and orchestral music,[4] This is quite prominent in some of Alobaidi's songs that feature orchestral suites, such as Endgame and Spectrum.[5][2]

Alobaidi had never had any previous training or music lessons, cannot make sheet music and knows little about music theory, Instead, he simply writes melodies and compositions in his head that he would create mostly visually with the aid of analysers, metres and scopes.[4]

UKF[edit]

At age 14, Alobaidi focused on making Drum and Bass songs, eventually submitting them to UKF for promotion. Luke Hood, the only person running UKF at the time, declined every song he had sent in. Alobaibi later made a dubstep song X No Way Out which he sent to Luke as a joke, but the song ironically got accepted. Alobaidi received attention from the song and other artists such as Borgore, encouraged his sound.[6]

Monstercat[edit]

Ever since the age of 16, Alobaidi has been making Drum and Bass and Drumstep, later venturing out into other genres. In 2011, his song The Destroyer (remixed by TwoThirds) debuted on the music label, Monstercat Media. Alodaibi later released his first single on Monstercat, Riding The Storm. Since then, Muzzy has released several songs and albums through Monstercat, notably Warhead (a collaboration with Droptek),[7] Insignia[8] and Endgame.[2] He has also released various EPs such as Get Crazy,[3] Spectrum[9] and F Minor Factory.[4]
