My Father’s Dragon[1] is an upcoming Irish-American 2D animated film directed by Nora Twomey.[1] It is based on the 1948 children's novel of the same name by Ruth Stiles Gannett.[1] Co-produced by Netflix Animation, Cartoon Saloon, Mockingbird Pictures and Parallel Films, the film is scheduled for a 2021 premiere on Netflix.[2][3]

Premise[edit]

Runaway Elmer Elevator searches for a captive dragon on Wild Island and finds much more than he could ever have anticipated.

Production[edit]

In November 2018, Netflix announced an adaptation of My Father's Dragon, with Nora Twomey directing from a script Meg LeFauve wrote from a story by LeFauve and John Morgan, who are producing the film along with Tomm Moore, Bonnie Curtis, Paul Young, Julie Lynn, Alan Moloney, Ruth Coady, and Gerry Shirren.[4]

Release[edit]

On November 6, 2018, Netflix announced that the film will be released in 2021.[4] On January 14, 2021, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that the film's release could be moved to "2022 or later", to meet Netflix's criteria of releasing six animated features per year.[5]
