My Mother's Fleabag, or Fleabag, is an improvisational theater group at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA, United States. Founded in 1980, My Mother's Fleabag is the oldest collegiate improv group in the country.[1][2]
History[edit]
My Mother's Fleabag was founded in 1980 by Barry Armata, class of 1981, as a way to imitate Saturday Night Live on campus. The group's name is meant to elicit the feeling of a fleabag motel on Cape Cod where each room has a different story, like improv skits.[3]
Performances[edit]
The group performs several times each year on campus including the annual Fall and Spring shows. Performances consist of a variety of short-form sketches organized into “games,” which are different improv scenarios with rules and requirements members follow. The group often experiments with various other improv styles and forms.[4]
