Nörth (/'nɔːθ/; Icelandic: norður) is a Brazilian heavy metal band from Belo Horizonte founded in 2013 by Lucas Magnavita as a one-man-band music project. Although Nörth is a solo project, the band has had several lineup changes with many different members and formations for the purpose of playing live performances. The band has released one demo E.P., one LP, and two full-length albums, and has played several small and large rock and metal festivals in and around Brazil and South America. Known for their religious and politically controversial lyrics.

Magnavita founded Nörth in 2013 and recorded the first EP in 2014, not being released until 2015; the LP came one year after, and the official first album in 2016. From 2016 to 2020, Magnavita has had new side projects in different styles, such as samba, djent, dark ambient, and video games background music, and recorded several more albums. The latest album was delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic and released in 2020.

History

Early years (2006–2012)

Lucas Magnavita began making music in 2006 with the band Angels of Nightmares along with four members who would later form the band The Black Crowns (they changed it later to Black Crown and including a new member), releasing one E.P. named "Frankenstein Castle". In 2009, he began initiating the band Black Crown, as a tribute to bands such as Slipknot, Lamb of God, Suicide Silence, Meshuggah, Sepultura and Sárcofago, but evolved into writing original music in Portuguese and in English, releasing only demo tracks, and they announced the end of the band in 2011. Therefore, along with a friend, in 2012, he initiated a new death metal and black metal project inspired by Burzum, Immortal, Venom and Behemoth that led to the beginning of the band North.

Name Changed and Releases (2013–2020)

The North band began as a quintet band in 2013.[1], including Luciano (early-bassist), Svarog (drums), Versiani (early-lead-guitarist), Baal (rhythm guitar and backing vocal), Lucas Magnavita (as "Mithra", vocals). The name was an inspiration on the Finnish myth[2] of Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights (Finnish: Revontulet).

The songs were composed and written by Lucas Magnavita, and performed by the members, which led the band to be a one-man-band project, and in 2015, released the first demo E.P. named Hermeneutics, and in 2016, the band name changed to North 67 and released the first LP[3]. In 2018, the band changed its name to Nörth and released Hermeneutics I[4], and in 2020, his second album, known as Hermeneutics II[5]
