NASA Martian Bee Plan
As of 1 April 2018, NASA is giving early-stage funding to a plan to put robot bees on Mars. The small bees would be able to fly in the thin Martian atmosphere and explore small spaces a larger rover could not. The bees would carry sensors and wireless transmitters. They would need to return to a base for recharging.
Eventually, NASA will evaluate the plan to determine whether or not it is feasible to put into practice.[1][2]
